SPAN 3080 The Hispanic World: Latin America:
A summary of the detrimental effects of populism in South America and its lingering consequences in the countries affected by this political ideology. A deeper dive is explored concerning the economic and political turmoil in modern-day Venezuela. Written in the fall of 2022.
SPAN 3040: Introductory to Hispanic Literary Forms:
A detailed analysis of the usage of ironic tragedy in the short story, "Las medias rojas". A brief summary of the short story is given before utilizing quotes from the story to give concrete examples of the usage of this literary device. Written in the spring of 2020.
Month-long Intensive Course (in Argentina):
A recounting of a day trip taken by our class during our study abroad in Argentina. We visited Jesuit sites in a town called Alta Gracia and were able to experience an asado in a local estancia together and enjoy the sights. Written in the summer of 2022.
SPAN 4110: Advanced Spanish and Composition:
This is an argumentative essay that looks at the benefits of euthanasia for people suffering from long-term and incurable ailments. This was inspired by a film watched in class, Mar Adentro, based on the real-life story of Ramón Sampedro, who was left quadriplegic after a diving accident, and his 28-year campaign in support of euthanasia and the right to end his life. Written in the fall of 2022.
ECON 3150: Intermediate Macroeconomics:
A summary of Albansi's and Kim's report in the Journal of Economic Perspectives dealing with the recession that the country undertook during the COVID-19 pandemic. Topics that are discussed in this report are job flexibility and unemployment levels and the relation between the two. Written in the spring of 2022.
ECON 3030: Economics and Sports:
A summary of an Econtalk podcast between Raymond Sauer and Russ Roberts dealing with incentives. I go into further detail about competitive balance within leagues and the difference between open and closed leagues throughout the world and the United States in particular and the differences and similarities between the two. Written in the spring of 2023.
